 Plans are afoot to make one of TV's gayest shows even more camp, with an all-musical episode and a possible Broadway musical.
Ugly Betty star Michael Urie, who plays catty assistant Marc St. James on the hit TV show, let slip he hoped the small screen cast would take the show to the stage.
"They do want to do an Ugly Betty musical, a full-on Broadway musical, but it’s all hush-hush," Urie told UK radio station Heart.
"I think it would be great, and they should use the cast from the show.
"I think we would all do it, although we maybe don’t dance and sing as well as professional singers and dancers. I think it would be fun for us to do it for a while, and then they could get real people in," Urie said.
Such comments would not help Urie's obsequious alter-ego Marc's career plan of assisting wicked Wilhelmina Slater. Slater is played by Vanessa Williams, a Tony Award-winning singer in her own right.
Urie said that before any Broadway version of Ugly Betty, there would be a musical TV episode of the show.
"They definitely want to do an episode that is a musical one, but then they want to do a full stage show. I think it’s a great idea. It would definitely work.”
Urie paid tribute to the show's guest star, Victoria 'Posh Spice' Beckham, who arrived on set with husband David and their two sons.
"I think everyone who worked on the show popped in at some point or another to just look at them because they are so gorgeous," Urie said.
"They brought their gorgeous Beckham spawn also. They are so adorable, the little boys. It was fun. She’s just great. She’s teeny tiny, she’s so hot, and she’s sweet, sweet, sweet!
“They gave me some Beckham cologne. It was a nice parting gift. She’s the only guest star who’s ever been on the show and given gifts!”
