An ongoing study into the experiences of same-sex attracted parents is looking for more participants to complete an online survey.

Launched in 2008, the Work, Love, Play study attracted over 450 people from across Australia and New Zealand in its first run.

“There was a fantastic response to the first survey,” said principal researcher Jennifer Power. “But now we have secured some more money to continue the study until 2014, we would love to boost numbers.”

Power said the survey needs to cover more gay fathers as well as people from rural areas and in particular the ACT, Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Researchers intend to run up to three follow-up surveys over the next five years, including a series of interviews with some parents. People willing to be included in the follow-up surveys are able to leave their details online for researchers to contact in future.

“All GLBTI people who have kids under 18 are welcome to complete the survey,” Power said. “All we ask is that only one person per family fills it in. So if you or your partner has already done it, please don’t do it again.”

The survey is being run by the Bouverie Centre at LaTrobe University with funding from various national and state organisations.
