The 2009 SameSame 25 list, released today (Thursday, December 17), celebrates GLBT community members who have made a significant contribution to queer culture over the past year.

The third annual SameSame 25 – affectionately known as ‘The Gaylies’ – encompasses a broad range of GLBT Australians who’ve made an impact, from household names to unsung heroes, said Tim Duggan, co-founder of the SameSame GLBT website.

“The point of it is to basically recognise GLBT Australians – some well-known, some not – who have contributed to our community over the past twelve months by the work that they do, or just through their visibility,” Duggan told SX.

“These 25 people were a large part of the year,” he said. “From court rooms to our living rooms, we are proud of the variety of the list this year, and know that their influence will continue for years to come.”

Nominations for the list were decided by the public, with the final 25 decided by a panel of nine judges, including publisher Peter Walton of Evolution Publishing.
