WEST END GIRLS [EMI UK]
This pair of Swedish school friends has been covering the hits of the Pet Shop Boys for the past decade; and as a tribute to one of the most important pop acts ever, these unlikely synthpop girls have built up a loyal following of fans. The West End Girls don’t mess with the formula, try anything tricky or attempt to reinvent the wheel; they just cover the songs with the respect they demand.
This is the first track released from their forthcoming second album, Shoplifters, and replaces the Dusty component of the duet with a male singer from their homeland. Magnus Carlson is drier than a Melbourne winter and adds a sensual edge to this classic anthem. Remixes from Nathan Heinze pep it up for some frenzied disco dancing.
