SCOUTING FOR GIRLS [SONY BMG]
Asking a cantankerous, cynical queen like me to connect with a clueless, post-emo boy band like Scouting for Girls was always going to be a luckless task. Their tweenie, punk-oriented sounds, and rampant take on pubescent philandering and desperate heterosexual musical crusades are no match for a thoroughbred homosexualist with definite musical tastes. However, these boys are obviously doing something right for their demographic (naughty girls with a bad habit) as this debut album claimed the number one spot on the UK charts earlier this year, and won (and broke) a zillion hearts along the way.
There’s something incredibly catchy about these bouncy songs that sneak into your head unannounced. Scouting for Girls are like a nicer version of McFly. So keep your guard up, or you’ll be seduced by these Pommy ratbags.
