HOT CHIP [EMI]
Ever since their monkey with a miniature cymbal clanged its way into our cultural consciousness a few years back, the tasty Hot Chip mega band have been a firm staple of our musical diet. Where these indie club kids were once bedroom musicians surprising themselves with their credible output, Made in the Dark is a resounding statement that the eagle has landed; in the studio anyway. The songs are more complex without being self conscious, the lyrics remain cheeky and slightly naff, the vocals kinda off-key and self–effacing, and generally, it’s more left of centre than the kids selling Socialist newspapers.
Impress your Kylie krazy mates with some future indie dance sounds of tomorrow. After all, she did turn down their single ‘Ready For the Floor’. Or did she? It’s a pop mystery.
