 KLEERUP [VIRGIN SWEDEN]
Swede-spotters will recognise Mr Kleerup as Robyn’s right hand man, and the person responsible for taking her to number one in the UK charts with ‘With Every Heartbeat’. He also toured with her recently in her backing band, and has a strong influence over her sound in general. So it makes obvious sense that I would love this solo album of his, too; as will you.
Lovers of electronica will fall for the cold synthetique beats, warmed by the soothing voices of guest vocalists like Neneh Cherry, Titiyo, Lykke Li, Marit Bergman and Lisa Milberg; not household names for commercial FM radio addictees, but subversive heroes on the underground pop front. Kleerup’s album shimmers with influences from Phillip Glass, Jean Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk, but with a future bent.
