As this one has been getting air-play across all stations over the last few weeks, I’d thought to give a review a miss. However, Estelle has trapped me in her spell, and the plethora of remixes available for the eager beavers of the wired world has made this track a definite April favourite. In its standard radio edit, ‘American Boy’ is a sultry UK take on urban 60s soul, with man bits courtesy of ‘designa styla’ Kayne West. Estelle gives new meaning to the term ‘understated’, and for that we salute her.

But the dance-orientated remixes just keep on coming, and are getting better and better. There’s some synth loop loving on the Estaw American Grill Fix; a mash-up with the Daft’s on the IL Hot DJ Flashlight ‘Stronger’ Remixxx; a gay glory with the Soul Seekerz; an android attack on the Stockholm Syndrome Club Mix; and a hand-baggy Italo mix by TS7.
