The program for the 18th Melbourne Queer Film Festival was launched before a receptive crowd at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) on Wednesday night.
Featuring over 140 films from countries such as France, Norway, Canada and the USA, this year’s festival includes a special focus on queer human rights, including two documentaries about the experiences of trans people in Iran.
Comedies, dramas, and horror films are also well represented, as are new works by Australian filmmakers.
“It’s a great selection of films,” Festival Director Lisa Daniel (pictured with festival co-convenor and partner Claire Jackson) said of this year’s program, adding that everything selected was “top quality".
“You have high standards, and we like to meet them,” she told the assembled guests and dignitaries. We’ve also managed to balance out the more challenging choices with the more accessible films in the program.”
