Dame Nellie Edgar and Friends Farewell Concert
Academy of the Arts, Inveresk
June 18 to 21
Michael Edgar is an icon of Tasmanian theatre. Though his accent belies the fact that he is not actually a local (shock horror), Michael has been the heart and soul of the Tassie theatre for over 20 years.
This show is a tribute to a man whose quiet reserve has often hidden the deep, dark truth. Michael Edgar is a very silly man. In the best possible way, of course. This show is, equally, a very silly one. In the best possible way, of course! Proving that not all theatre need be doom, despair, depression or depravity (though those can be fun, also), Dame Nellie Edgar and Friends Farewell Concert is billed as:
“An evening of songs. Songs about babies, songs about research, songs about maths, songs about Fibonacci numbers, the Black Death, being a nursing student ... and Ricky Ponting”.
Songs about Fibonacci numbers? Well, you can count me in on that basis alone! Whether you have been lucky enough to be a recipient of Edgar's tutelage; whether you have just enjoyed the odd one of his shows, or whether you are a new visitor to the delightfully offbeat world of Dame Nellie, come along to this show, and pay tribute to Tassie's Grand Dame of theatre.
