 Tasmanian Living Writers' Week 2008

Hurrah! It is here!
In Tassie, we love our books. We love our poems. We love our poetry. We also love a damn good party. All of these loves will be more than catered to by the upcoming Tasmanian Living Writers' Week festivities.
They are calling it a “showcase”. I call it a blooming good shindig – a chance for those who make their living from writing and those who live to appreciate the work they do to rub shoulders, cross pens and just celebrate the love we have down here of the written word.
And, it seems, to do some hero worship.
After all, what poet worth his salt hasn't dreamed of getting up close and personal with the great Les Murray? What aspiring writer of young adult fiction wouldn't sell their mother in law to set eyes on Morris Gleitzman's bespectacled face?
“TLWW”, as those in the know call it, gives wannabes and already-ares; doers and viewers alike the chance to meet their heroes, to savour and scribble down the sage-like words they utter, to buy their seminal works and maybe even get them signed with some of their sage-like words as an inscription!
Excuse me while I calm down!
Les Murray will be there, Morris wouldn't miss it for the world. Peter Goldsworthy will be hanging around and Samuel Wagan Watson will be casting his acerbic eye over the whole shebang.
Julian Burnside, Kathryn Fox, Julia Leigh, Peter Thompson, Bruce Pascoe, Anita Heiss, Peter Temple and Tim Bonyhady all wouldn't miss it for the world, so why should you?
