Bombshells
Backspace Theatre
June 19-28
While the Sex and the City girls are
parading their Manolo Blahnik shoes on the big screen, another set of feisty
women will soon be strutting their stuff on the boards at Hobart's Backspace Theatre.
The Tasmanian Theatre Co has nabbed a bold and audacious show for its debut
season in Joanna Murray Smith's Bombshells.
The six thoroughly modern characters in Bombshells have delighted audiences from Edinburgh to Perth, and finally they
are hitting Tasmania with a bang. Originally written for famed Australian
theatre actress Caroline O'Connor, the Tasmanian season will
feature local performers in the six main roles.
From a catty Irish schoolgirl, to a
cactus-loving geek; a wicked widow to a cabaret chanteuse, Bombshells shows
us six very different takes on modern womanhood
Carrie and co might have the
designer duds and big Hollywood bucks behind them, but this play has heart,
drama, realism and a whole load of sass. Plus a few cacti thrown in and, after
all, what is good theatre without cacti?
Bombshells hits the Backspace
Theatre, Hobart, on June 19, with shows in regional areas to follow. For more
